Are All Online Games Free?

Even though many of the games found online are free, some websites charge a small subscription fee to play some of the latest games. This is to offset licensing costs, web maintenance and virus protection costs. Depending on your interest in online games, you may be perfectly happy playing free games such as solitaire, word games and other fun games that can be played alone. But if you want to play against other people, fees may apply on some websites.

What are the Differences between Tryware and Shareware?

When browsing through a gaming website, you may notice that some of the games are tagged as 'tryware' or 'shareware'. Both of these terms refer to the availability for others to play the games. When a game is labeled as 'tryware', it usually means that you can try the game for a certain amount of time and then you have to purchase the game in order to continue playing it. If you decide to purchase the game, you may be given an access code after purchasing it so you can play whenever your want. Most tryware games can be downloaded on to your computer after purchase.

Online games that are labeled 'shareware' are games that have been uploaded by other people to the website. These games are free to be shared by anyone who wants to download them. When downloading shareware, make sure the file does not contain any viruses that could damage your computer. Unfortunately, hackers and others who want to sabotage others online will create games that include computer viruses. Before downloading any games, make sure the websites carefully screens the game it offers so you don't end up with a virus.

Will Paying for Online Games Guarantee Better Quality?

This depends on the types of games you want to play. If graphics are important to you, then paying for online games that contain better graphics is worth it. But if you enjoy playing simple room escape games or brain teasers, you can find many websites that offer free games that are just as good as games you pay for.

Reading reviews of specific games and signing up for a free trial on gaming sites are two ways that you can be sure that a game is worth paying for. For many people, playing games online is a way to reduce stress and concentrate on something other than work for awhile. There are plenty of free games that offer that and more. But if you want to play within a community of online gamers, check out which gaming sites are the best to decide if you want to spend a little money to join the community. It may be worth it in the end.
